About LIFETIME

LIFETIME is a Danish brand and owned by the family business M. Schack Engel A / S, which was founded in 1972.

The company M. Schack Engel A / S started way back in 1924, when Lars Hans Engel, grandfather of the current business owner, opened a workshop for repairing wooden furniture in Højer, a small village in the southwestern part of Denmark. His son, Martin Schack Engel, took over the company in 1958 and expanded the portfolio of wood products, where in the following years he changed the small workshop to a small furniture production.

All furniture was made of pine and the first modular beds were held together by wooden wedges, so there was no need for fittings or metal screws, which was quite unique at this time. Due to high demand, the company focused on children's and youth furniture and further invested in employees and equipment for an expanded furniture production. This was the start of a successful bed system that started with the name ‘Rune’, then ‘Classic’ and now LIFETIME Kidsrooms ‘Original’. A development that has been driven by 3 generations in the Engel family - of which the latest and now 4th generation, Henrik Engel, John's son in 2013 became a part.

Today, the company is run and owned by John Engel, his son Henrik Engel and Keld Nielsen, who back in 2008 became part of the owners after working for many years in the company.

All LIFETIME Kidsroom furniture is manufactured in our own Danish production facility of 13,000 m2 in Højer - with the help of experts, furniture professionals and an ultra-modern machine park. We make textiles and accessories in collaboration with a number of skilled and experienced designers and manufacturers who have their expertise in this field.

LIFETIME Kidsrooms is proud to be able to maintain our furniture production in Højer, Denmark - and sell our Danish quality furniture in more than 35 countries worldwide. We are a large but very environmentally conscious furniture manufacturer, which produces high quality sustainable furniture. All electricity in our factory and offices is from the sustainable energy source - the wind turbine. Our factory is only heated with residual material from our own production. LIFETIME Kidsrooms received a Green Environmental Award back in 2004 for our responsible and environmentally friendly products.

FSC-certified forestry

All our wood comes from selected forest plantations in Northern Europe. The wood is supplied from Sweden, Finland, Latvia and Lithuania.

There are several reasons for this. Our suppliers are FSC-certified, and all our raw wood comes from controlled forestry in Northern Europe. The certification assures us that all our wood comes from sustainable forestry, which we can be proud of.

We give back, and are aware that we must do our part to take care of the climate. That is why we take our responsibility very seriously, and we only use wood from forestry with responsible forestry.

The FSC certification ensures that we always give back. For every other tree we use in our production, three new trees are planted.

Slowly growing trees from Northern Europe

One of the reasons why we collaborate with a number of sawmills from Northern Europe is that trees grow slowly in the cold climate areas of Finland, Sweden, Lithuania and Latvia.

In the north, where the climate is challenging and cold, the pine trees grow more slowly than forest areas with higher temperatures. The trees are longer about to grow large as it is challenging to grow in the harsh, cold climate. Therefore, the pine is both harder and more robust than fast-growing pine from warmer forests.

Our wood gets the time it needs to achieve the right hardness without the addition of artificial means. We do not rush anything and we only want to use the absolute best wood in our furniture production.

The wood arrives - in its pure and natural form - at our Danish factory in Højer in southwestern Jutland. Sawmills in Northern Europe cut the wood into uniform planks, which undergo a large number of quality inspections before the furniture is approved for delivery to a children's room around the world.

Production with care

At LIFETIME Kidsrooms, only eco-friendly and water-based varnish is used to treat all furniture. The treatment of the wood is very effective and the wood surface is sealed and covered according to best practice. The eco-friendly varnish, which is used for color treatment of wood, is not harmful to breathe, which gives our employees good working conditions at the furniture factory in Højer.

We use pine planks with visible knobs for all our furniture with white pigmented and gray pigmented appearance. The characteristic knob structure is clearly felt in the pigmented wood, which gives the furniture a natural look, where you can clearly sense the structure of wood.

In our furniture with a white surface, the wooden structure is not felt. Here the surface is smooth and the white color is penetrating. Our furniture with white surface is produced in knot-free pine. All knobs are removed from the pine planks to maintain a simple and classic white look.

From generation to generation

The starting point for LIFETIME Kidsrooms has always been to create unique furniture solutions for children. We have been doing this since 1972, and we will continue to do so in the future. At LIFETIME Kidsrooms, we produce furniture that sets the framework for the good development of children of all ages.

It is important to us that we help to promote a focus on quality rather than quantity. Our desire is to create quality furniture that lasts a lifetime. It should not be necessary to buy new furniture as soon as the needs of the children change.

Rebuild, add and combine your children's furniture again when the children need more storage, more space for play or more sleeping places. Our goal is - and always has been - to create good furniture solutions that will always have a place in the home.

Children's furniture should last a long time, because - admittedly - it is inevitable that children grow and grow. Therefore, it is also completely natural for us that a children's piece of furniture should grow with the child.

Not only do our furniture have several functions and combination options, we also make sure that the quality is top notch. Therefore, our furniture is in the family through several generations as more children come in and the family tree expands further.

Sustainable production

At our Danish factory, we only use electricity from sustainable energy sources. All electricity for the daily operation of our production plant comes from wind turbine energy. Green energy and sustainable solutions have - from the very beginning - been part of our DNA at Lifetime Kidsrooms.

The 13,000 m2 production area in Denmark is heated exclusively with residual material from production. Nothing is wasted on the production plant. All wood that is in surplus is used to heat the factory.

We contribute to the green transition, and want to maintain focus on the need to use climate-friendly energy solutions in the production of furniture. We take responsibility and for several decades we have focused on reducing our climate footprint by optimizing our production facilities towards sustainable production solutions.

Safety-approved children's furniture

We have been producing children's furniture since 1972. We therefore know a thing or two about making quality furniture for the children's room. It is very important to us that our furniture is approved according to all applicable rules. That is why we work with the independent German company, TÜV, which tests and certifies both facilities and objects, in order to minimize dangers and prevent damage. We make an effort to maintain a high quality level, where the focus is on creating furniture that both parents and children feel safe and comfortable with.

The production of Lifetime Kidsroom beds takes place in accordance with all applicable rules and safety measures in accordance with the requirements set by TÜV SÜD Product Service GmbH.

Lifetime Kidsrooms is TÜV-certified from 17/11 2020. The certificate ensures the maintenance of flawless and uniform furniture production. Beds from Lifetime meet all safety and health requirements set by The German Product Safety Act.

Design with sense and heart

Lifetime Kidsroom furniture is designed by our Dutch designer, Jaco Bosch. Since 2011, Jaco has been developing unique children's furniture for children all over the world. Jaco's inspiring and functional designs inspire and contribute to good childhood memories all over the world. At the same time, the furniture contributes to happy parents around the world who love the high functionality of the children's room.

We make a virtue out of combining functionality and creativity through good design. We have always done that, and our philosophy is that good design should speak to both reason and heart. It is a position we always return to when new furniture is on the drawing board.

It has always been important for us to create children's furniture that makes a difference for both children and parents. For decades, we have maintained our original philosophy with a focus on good craftsmanship and innovative solutions.

Today, it is still based on the company's original values that the furniture is designed and produced. In addition to creating the perfect setting for the child's good development, our furniture is designed based on being able to grow with the child. All furniture is therefore still designed based on the combination of creative and functional design.
